Honking horns, blaring music, cell phones ringing, computers beeping, traffic, kid’s crying, and the list goes on and on and on Noise, noise, noise—even the wind whistles!

Noise is everywhere drowning out our ability to find peace and quiet—to locate stillness. Quiet has now become a priceless commodity. It is now as unique as finding a rare gem among a sea of colored gems that blare out the loudness of NOISE! As with all rare gems, we have to seek out this precious possession.

It’s hard to find God in the mist of the Chaos and confusion, (1Kings 19:11-12). Relationships are best nurtured in their moments of pure intimacy. These moments are best found when loudness of the outer world is dispelled allowing the voice of the inner (God) to be realized.

Psalms 46:10 admonishes, “BE STILL, and know that I am God!” This is a clear indication that stillness is an avenue to relating to God. When Jesus sought peace on the raging waters, He first rebuked the winds and then He commanded the storm to be still. (Mark 4:39) Even Jesus knew that you have to purposefully cast out confusion and order in peace and quiet.

Why is stillness beneficial? Why is it important to have quiet time? The answer is easy, it provides stability. Why do we need quiet times with the Lord? Because it helps us to engage in a more intimate interaction with God, distraction free. Jesus, Himself, recognized the importance of solitude and prayer, (Mark 1:35).
